MAXWELL WANG
Maxwell Wang (Wang Yukai) is the Co-Founder and Partner of LiGhtBØX Pictures. Originally from Shenzhen, China, Maxwell is a filmmaker, writer, and producer whose work blends technical precision with a storytelling style shaped by dark humor, surreal twists, and a carefully calibrated dose of chaos. Maxwell is best known for his directorial vision and producerial leadership, having overseen multiple high-caliber student projects across demanding production schedules.
Maxwell wrote, directed, and produced Just 5 Minutes (2025) and Sight of the Fact (2025)—the first two films created under the newly formalized LiGhtBØX Pictures banner, following its expansion from a personal creative label into a full partnership. After completing Just 5 Minutes, Maxwell proposed expanding LiGhtBØX into a collaborative studio, with the film becoming the flagship piece that launched this new creative chapter. Just 5 Minutes has received international recognition, winning 20+ awards in film festivals across the globe, while Sight of the Fact continues post-production ahead of festival release.
A 2025 graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy’s Film and New Media program, Maxwell has worked across student thesis and capstone productions in roles ranging from grip and boom operator to Director of Photography and Assistant Director. He is currently pursuing a BFA in Media Arts Production at Emerson College (Class of 2029), and leads LiGhtBØX’s development and festival strategy initiatives. Fluent in English and Chinese, Maxwell believes life is too short for predictable stories—and filmmaking too powerful to play it safe.
